- <p> Baseball has its amazing mysteries: sacrifice flies,
- biorhythmic batting slumps, perfect games -- and Orel Hershiser
- IV. Hershiser, at least, can explain himself. The Dodger
- pitching sensation does just that in Out of the Blue, his
- best-selling memoir of the 1988 baseball season. Says he:
- "Admittedly I have a funny name, in a baseball uniform I appear
- to have no chest, and my long arms and legs don't evidence my
- strength." Success, he says, stems in part from the mysteries
- of faith. "Being a Christian is no excuse for mediocrity." The
- Bible, after all, is a best seller too.
